Magnetism: Not Just For Animals

I know a very spiritual woman who has recently realized a reversal in her circumstances: She told me, 'I used to have unfortunate beliefs about myself and I received back from external influences unfortunate results. When I decided to take control and raise my resonance, to be the change I wanted to become, to allow abundance and love come flow through me, absolutely everything fell into place. I am now living a life of leisure with a beautiful husband and I can draw what I want into my universe at will.'

What does it take to be magnetic? Can we really draw money, love or health simply by telling ourselves we are magnets for what we want?

All it takes is a shift in perception.

We choose what we focus on in life. We choose to be miserable when it rains and happy when it's sunny. Or we can appreciate the downpour as an opportunity to take care of indoor activities or to go splashing through puddles.

When we focus on good, good comes to us. When we focus on grief, we grieve. This is not to say there's no place for grief in life, it's just to say, we need to be mindful that we're not suffering over our own suffering. We do not need to be grief magnets.

I overheard a girl in a caf telling her friend, 'I'm a total freak magnet. I can't leave my apartment without running into someone either clinically insane or whacked out on drugs or fanatical about some weirdness who wants to have extensive interaction with me.'

Her friend responded, 'That's strange. Your neighborhood is really nice. I can't imagine there would be too many freaks around there.'

'I don't know. The freaks just seem to find me. They're everywhere that I am. They're just out there waiting for me to leave the house to try to get me to join their cult.'

Of course, I didn't interrupt, but I thought to myself, how awful for this girl to believe this about herself. She's unconsciously drawing the lowest common denominator to her by putting out this energy into the world.

This is really how attraction works. What you think about yourself, you are. What you believe about the world, is your reality. What you speak, is your truth.

I almost wanted to say to her, 'You know, you could just as easily not be a 'freak magnet' by simply telling yourself that you're another kind of magnet.' Then I realized that, sadly, my intrusion would only further confirm her self-diagnosis and she'd misinterpret my advice as more freakery, as in, 'Yeah, this guy came up to me in the caf and told me to be another kind of magnet. He looked pretty normal, but what a freak!'

Whatever your beliefs, I implore you, take this freak's advice and adjust your expectations of what the world is going to bring you and start requesting only good and not the lowest common denominator.

Decorate This Christmas With Children's Crafts

It's the holiday season, again, time to break out those boxes of Christmas decorations and fill the house with all of the bright colors, fabrics and joyful messages of the season. Through the years, we collect these decorations. Some are just hand-me-downs, some are genuine heirlooms, and some are ornaments and lights and various baubles we've bought or been given, through the years. After a while, we have a hard time remembering the significance of any of them, if there ever was any.

But there's something we can always count on, when we pull those boxes from storage-the kids will want to help decorate the home for Christmas. After all, who knows more about the joy and excitement of the holidays than our kids? And putting up the Christmas decorations is one chore they always want to help with.

Why not let your children be a real, fundamental part of the Christmas decorating, every year? In place of some of the knick-knacks, whose origins have been lost to memory, holiday decorations crafted by the children in the family can become truly important pieces of a family's Christmas celebration for years to come, perhaps even for generations.

It's the kind of activity that children of any age can engage in. Even the youngest members of a family can make their permanent mark on future Christmases, by helping to fashion new decorations. Designs and simple plans can be found for all kinds of homemade Christmas decorations on the internet.

Creating holiday decorations is an activity in which the whole family can participate, as well. Children, whose families help craft their ideas into permanent Christmas fixtures, will feel a real sense of belonging and pride, when their creations are on display and admired by all of the Christmas visitors.

Creating homemade decorations is also the kind of activity that makes a perfect focus for a children's Christmas party, early in the season. Children can gather at one home and make new holiday ornaments for their own individual homes, or they can work together to create decorations to donate to others, who may not have decorations at the holidays, like hospital or nursing home patients.

Christmas is a time that brings out the best in children. Let your kids feel as though they've helped your family, this year, by creating and putting up their own creations. Years from now, when you open those decoration boxes in early December, you'll all have a wonderful time, remembering exactly where all those wonderful ornaments came from, and when they were made.

Save The Memories Of Christmas Morning

A child's reaction at the first sight of the Christmas tree, on Christmas morning, with all of the presents from Santa Claus's visit, piled underneath, is all it takes to convince most parents of the importance of this day, in every child's life. Most parents want this morning to be perfect for their children, and when it is, all the hassles of the holiday season have been worth the effort.

Years pass and the various ways families mark Christmas morning become their own specific traditions, habits that make them comfortable. However they choose to celebrate the morning after Santa's visit, through the years, the memory of their first Christmases will remain strong in their family fabric.

Every Christmas morning is a time which is unique in its own right and can be recorded and preserved forever. There are many different kinds of media available, today, with which to record the occasion. Unlike years past, there's no training necessary to be the family photographer, today. Most cameras, either video or photo, are simple point-and-shoot devices, making their operations simple enough for anyone to use.

Most families have some sort of video-recording camera or device. These cameras, today, require almost no skill or effort to run, and can easily be set up, out of the way, in a place that can record a family's entire Christmas morning at the tree. DVD's or mini-tapes are easy to store, and easy to edit, later, into special Christmas videos.

Digital photo cameras, today, are also simple enough for anyone to be the designated family photographer on Christmas morning. Many families are just more comfortable with photos than with videos, especially on a morning when everyone rises and heads to the tree, with little regard for how they look. Candid photos, though can often be more interesting and funny, later on, than even video.

Christmas is such a special occasion in the lives of so many families. It's a shame to let such a joyful time pass, without some kind of lasting record. Even if the effort seems tedious on such a busy morning, years from it will be appreciated by all. And future generations will delight in having the link to the happiness of their ancestors.

The more you fight something you really don't want, the more it seems to get in your face. Your mind is telling you should fight it. It sets up the defense system for battle. Preparing and guarding yourself also seems to make the problem more visible.Overwhelming your mind attracts only thoughts that make you fail. You struggle against being sick rather than letting yourself relax and letting your body heal. Allowing yourself to get well without stress and worry in a calm way, speeds the healing process. Fighting against poverty creates more poverty, just relax and allow more positive opportunities to come into your life. Positive thoughts create positive vibrations. It makes you more open minded and more prone to succeed. This translates to less strain and stress. Discouragement, doubt, worries and defeat should be eliminated in order to be create the life you truly want.

When you walk into most gyms, you will see people walking on treadmills at a slow and steady pace...You are witnessing the low intensity cardio workout in action. This form of aerobic exercise became very popular after university studies proved it was the best way to target body fat directly. A very large percentage of calories burned come directly from body fat. No wonder why this form of exercise is so popular!

Pick cardio equiptment that has a built in heart rate monitor. You want to do this to insure that you hit the ideal intensity level. It will take about 10 minutes to reach your target heart rate and at that point you will want to stay in that zone for about 30 minutes.

The High Intensity Cardio Workout

This form of aerobic exercise can be tougher to perform than the lower intensity version. Although not as popular, this is a very effective way at burning tons of calories. The calories burned in high intensity cardio workouts come from both carbs stored in the muscle (glycogen)...as well as stored body fat.

A foolproof way to lose weight is to burn more calories than what you consume each day. High intensity cardio is best for creating a calorie deficit, by burning a large amount of calories.

The Imperfections of The 2 Versions of Cardio Workouts

Once you get your heart rate up to the correct level, the low intensity cardio workout will burn body fat. The downside is that it can take up to 10 minutes to get your heart rate to the correct level to burn body fat. The first 10 minutes of this cardio workout are somewhat unproductive.

The problem with high intensity aerobic exercise is that it is really hard to maintain for a long time. Things really get tough after 10-15 minutes if you push hard.

How to Combine The Two Approaches Into One Awesome Cardio Workout

When performed in a certain manner, it is possible to benefit from doing both types of cardio in the same workout. You can make the first ten minutes of the low intensity cardio workout productive, by starting your cardio workout off at a high intensity level.

The way to accomplish this is find your favorite cardio machine...an elliptical machine, treadmill, exercise bike, etc. Start your workout by setting the machine at a tough level and maintain that level for 10-15 minutes. The idea is to have a tough time reaching the 10 minute mark. After 10 minutes, back down to an easier pace and maintain that pace for 30 minutes. You are now going to burn tons of calories, create a calorie deficit, as well as burn body fat directly. This is quickly becoming my favorite cardio workout, since it is so effective.

Confidence Within

There is a fine line between wanting to change something about yourself and having low self esteem. Many Americans wish they could be taller, shorter, or have more money. just to name a few. Having a negative or hateful view of yourself is typically associated with low self esteem and is more serious. Those suffering from low self esteem generally look at themselves and others negatively, lack confidence, and perform poorly. Trying to figure out what percent of the population suffers from low self esteem is nearly impossible as low self esteem is related to many other emotional issues.

Self hate, lack of confidence or low self esteem are not learned overnight but something learned though many repetitive situations. Anyone, whether it is a parent, teacher or society can cause a person to have low self esteem. Some parents whether they do it intentionally or not, compare siblings, have unrealistic demands of their children, or simply do not understand the child and berate them for it which leaves the child feeling unloved and detached. Teachers sometimes make the same mistake by being overly critical of students work or compare them to other children, making the child feel like a failure and isolated. Society can play a large role as well by placing very unrealistic expectations on people. Many preteen and teen girls expressed they feel the pressure to be thin simply from an article they read in a magazine.

According to Selfesteeminternational.org, we are losing one third of our youth to drugs, alcohol, eating disorders, jail, teen pregnancy, crimes and violence, drop outs, and suicide. The driving force to all of these issues is low self esteem. Some people have a hard time accepting negative self image is the cause for all of these problems. However Selfesteeminternational.org reported that 80-90% of pregnant teens do not give up their children because they feel a baby will give them the unconditional love they never had.

There are many programs out there for those who suffer from low self esteem. They range from counseling sessions, take medication, or to reading self help books. There are also new techniques being used to help build confidence, one of those is hypnosis. Hypnosis works with the subconscious mind to uncover what memories are causing painful low self esteem. Once the memory has been identified, the hypnotist and patient work though the memory and the patient's reaction to it. Together they help rebuild self confidence and work through all feelings, good or bad until the patient is satisfied with their progress. Since it works with the subconscious mind, it is easier to open up and express feelings you might not know you were having.

Some still feel that medication or therapy is the best and only way to treat self esteem issues. However, the medications only work with the chemical reactions in the body, it will not create a positive image or with the memories which are causing the patient pain and agony. Therapy can go on for months before the real trigger and emotional reaction is uncovered and it also deals with the mind on a conscious level. When dealing with the mind on a conscious level, patients often become very censored for fear they are being judged by the counselor. It can take a long time before a patient begins to trust the counselor enough to open up. While under hypnosis they sub conscious mind takes over allowing for completely candid thoughts.

You have taken the biggest and most important step in your treatment. You realize you have a problem with self esteem and want to do something about it. You no longer want to go on feeling the way you do. The choice is yours, will you choose a treatment that could take months and months, will you choose a short term chemical fix or will you choose to open you mind and discovery why you feel the way you do, the choice is simple.

Pressured To Travel At Christmas?

Remember looking forward to the holiday season? Remember, when you were a child, the anticipation of Santa Claus's visit and how your mom and dad seemed to have all the time in the world to make your Christmas perfect? Times have changed, haven't they? Especially for young families, today, the holiday season has just become way too busy.

Somehow, though, most families manage to survive this busy season, fairly intact. And though the way the Christmas season is celebrated may be different today than it was for their parents' generation, today's young families manage to form their own traditions, which they'll pass along, to be adapted by the next generation. Even so, there's one holiday aspect that will never change for modern couples.

The parents of today's new parents, now grandparents themselves, expect the same kind of Christmas attention that their parents demanded, when they became grandparents. Grandmas and grandpas still exert pressure, loving though it may be, to be visited over the holidays by their children and grandchildren.

But Grandma's house isn't usually just "over the river and through the woods", anymore. Young couples may have moved across the country from their hometowns, for career, for school, or just for the adventure. Or, Grandma and Grandpa may have retired to Phoenix. And while it's relatively easy to stay in almost constant touch with faraway relatives, today, long-distance travel is fairly problematic.

Young families have it doubly difficult, traveling with small children. Besides the ever-increasing costs, there's the hassles involved with waiting in long lines and sitting for hours in airplanes on runways, while trying to keep little ones occupied or sleeping. It's not fun for a young family to start their own holiday traditions when they're rushing from airport to airport.

When it's possible, being with extended family is wonderful at Christmas. But sometimes the effort can create more discomfort than benefit. As much as we'd all like to be with Grandma and Grandpa during the holidays, sometimes it's better just to make plans for visiting, when things are less hectic. That way, the stress level is lower, and everyone can truly savor the joy of family.

For various reasons, many couples have children whose ages are widely varied, ranging from pre-school to high school and even college age. During the holidays, it can be especially challenging, trying to satisfy the sensibilities of every child in such a family.

Every family's little children spend months looking forward to that famous sleigh-ride that Santa takes, each year, barely able to contain their excitement as Christmas Eve draws ever closer, along with the promise of all the best toys and goodies under the tree on Christmas morning.

Teenagers may have been waiting for Santa just as anxiously, only a couple of years earlier, but now that they've wised-up, they usually go out of their way to reject any of the innocent, magical notions of flying reindeer, bags of toys, jolly old fat men, and anything that reminds them that they were once little kids, too.

Parents can find themselves in the middle, when it comes to dealing with the holidays. It can be difficult to meet the needs of both sets of kids. While Mom and Dad may want to preserve the joy and the mystery that Santa and his legend bring to Christmas for their younger kids, they also know that their older children are influential models to the littler siblings.

Older siblings can help moms and dads with their younger brothers and sisters, during the holiday season. It wasn't so long ago that these teens were anxiously awaiting Santa, too. Reminding them of those special feelings, and how wonderful that anticipation felt, is a way of enlisting older kids as Santa's helpers. If they realize that part of adulthood, at Christmastime, is preserving the magic of the season, they'll be much more accommodating to their younger siblings' needs.

Eventually, the younger kids will outgrow many of the holiday season's traditional aspects, including Santa Claus and his reindeer. But they'll be grateful for the memories they have of Christmas past with their family, and the efforts of the whole family to make the season special and magical.

Teaching Your Child To Volunteer At Christmas

There are as many different ways to celebrate Christmas as there are families. Regardless of the way a family may choose to mark the holiday, Santa Claus is bound to be a part of their observance, if there's a young child in their midst. Santa's been around for many years, despite the fact that every generation of parents worries that their children may be learning greed, by wishing for too much from St. Nick's visit.

This worry can be eased, if parents remember that, according to the legend, the bounty that Santa leaves under the tree on Christmas morning is based on every child's good behavior. So, while a child may expect a big pile of wonderful toys, Santa expects something in return-that the child be nice and good, as the song says.

What many adults forget is that being nice and good-as well as compassionate and empathetic-are traits that come naturally to most children. From the time they're born, children seek comfort and safety, and once they've reached the age when they accept the safety of their own environment, most children have a strong desire to share or spread that feeling to others. Watch a small child care for a baby doll, or even a new pet, and you can see how important is it to the child, to share the feeling of comfort.

If parents learn to recognize and nurture these tendencies, they can help their kids develop lifelong habits of generosity and compassion. It can begin as simply as encouraging a child who follows a parent around, wanting to "help" as the parent works, and allowing the child to actually help. Being helpful can become second nature to a child.

Christmastime is the perfect season to bolster and help build these feelings in a child. It's a great time for children to begin to learn that they have a lot to offer the world outside their immediate family, and that they can have an impact on the lives of people they may not even know, or know well. In fact, Christmas is the perfect season to involve the whole family in voluntary activities that benefit others.

The kinds of activities that teach children to help others can be as simple as helping a neighbor with yard work, or feeding a friend's pet, when its family is away. Activities that garner appreciation, no matter how easy or simple, will teach a young child the value of helping others.

Once a child learns the habit of helping others-which is what Santa wants too, after all-that child will have the foundation ingrained, to live a richer life, in service to others.

As long as you get thirty minutes a day you will see results.

Health - Try to start a healthy diet or start exercising. Even losing a measly ten pounds can help you drastically and keep your blood pressure normal. Physical inactivity is also another lifestyle habit that causes many Americans to develop high blood pressure.

If you are not very physically active, consider starting to be. You can easily adapt exercise to your everyday routine; you just have to plan it out. Try to do at least thirty minutes of exercise a day. This will help lower or control your blood pressure.

By the time children are a few years old, the holiday season, for most families, isn't nearly as hectic as it used to be. After going through a few Christmases, every family develops its own traditions and its own way of celebrating. With all of the pagents and events, the shopping and the parties, the season from October through December can be extremely hectic. Finding a routine for the constants of the season-when the tree is bought and lit, for instance, or when the Christmas cookies get baked-is a way each family can make the season pass more easily.

Still, the holidays are a time of year which can bring surprises which no one can foresee, surprises which can challenge a family's traditional way of celebrating. Surprises like the mid-December call from Uncle Mike that he and Aunt Marie are going to grace your family with their presence, this Christmas.

It might be welcome news, to some, that long-distance relatives are coming to visit, during the busiest time of the year. But even if the relatives who are coming are the favorites of everyone in the house, their presence will definitely alter the way the host family spends their Christmas. And that will add stress to the holiday.

Still, it's difficult to tell relatives that they can't come to visit at Christmas. Most families, presented with the situation, grit their teeth and do their best to welcome their extended family, even if it means that adjustments to their traditions will have to be made.

Though Christmas is about family and fellowship, it's not inappropriate to inform potential visitors of your family's plans for celebrating the holidays. Let them know that when they stay in your home for Christmas, they may join your family in any of your traditions, but that your family won't alter the fundamental way it celebrates, because of your visitors.

Even if parents know what toys their little ones want for Christmas, they may not know the right color or size or model. It seems that every toy, today, has lots of variations, which can cause Santa's helpers lots of headaches, when it comes to shopping.

The whole holiday season, for the parents of young children, is about that wonderful moment on Christmas morning, when the surprise is complete, and the magic of Santa Claus is proven-that he really knows what every child wants. No parent wants to be responsible for the kind of disappointment that the wrong color choice or the wrong model choice can create.

Young parents need to learn what most veterans of the Christmas Challenge already know-it's O.K. for Santa to be fallible. In the long run, there are a lot of events that will live much longer in a child's memory than the gifts that Santa brought-or didn't-in any given year.

Individuals who lack Vitamin A can suffer from night blindness; in fact, doctors recommend that children consume a lot of carrots so that these children's eyes can develop properly.

Vitamin B1, known as thiamine, is a water-soluble vitamin that is part of the B-complex group of vitamins. A debilitating disease called beriberi results when we take less than 1.2 milligrams of Vitamin B1 a day. So far, there is no upper limit for Vitamin B1 consumption, but that does not mean that it can be taken to the extremes.

Riboflavin, or Vitamin B2, is a member of the B-complex group and is also soluble in water. Like other B-complex vitamins, riboflavin functions in keeping the immune system functioning. It has no determined upper limit, although taking less than 1.3 milligrams of Vitamin B2 a day can result in a disease called ariboflavinosis. This again does not mean it can be taken in very large amounts necessarily as a supplement.

Another B-complex vitamin is niacin - Vitamin B3. Water soluble, again, and an immune system booster, niacin also functions in growth in young children. The allowable daily dose for Vitamin B3, depending on the Country you live in, is from sixteen to thirty-five milligrams; below this range a disease called pellagra can result.

Another water-soluble Vitamin is B5, or pantothenic acid, is another B-complex vitamin that not only functions in the immune system, but growth development also, and can contribute to increasing strength and energy as well. We all need to consume at least five milligrams of Vitamin B5 each day; lower consumption can result in paresthesia - a numbness in certain parts of the body.

Pyridoxine, or Vitamin B6, also has actions in proper growth and development, especially in young children. A water-soluble B-complex vitamin, pyridoxine must be consumed at a minimum of 1.3 to 1.7 milligrams a day; consumption of the vitamin beyond the hundred milligram mark is considered an overdose, and can result in some eye or perception disorders. Conversely, anemia can occur when the proper amounts of pyridoxine aren't consumed via the diet.

Vitamin B7, biotin, is another water soluble B-complex vitamin. Although no biotin-deficiency related diseases have been detected, we are required to consume at least thirty micro grams of Vitamin B7 every day as a minimum.

Folic acid - Vitamin B9 - an extremely important Vitamin for developing children and pregnant mothers. This B-complex member should be consumed at a level of about four hundred to a thousand micro grams a day, if it is not, then, severe birth defects may result in pregnant mothers.

Cyanacobalamin, or Vitamin B12, functions in proper growth and development. About 2.4 micro grams of this water-soluble B-complex vitamin must be consumed each day. Anemia often results from Vitamin B12 deficiency.

Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is a highly important water-soluble essential vitamin that can be found in many fresh fruits and vegetables. Only ninety to two thousand milligrams should be consumed each day, or kidney damage can result. Vitamin C deficiency results in scurvy, which is manifested in cracked skin and a damaged immune system.

Vitamins D, E, and K are similar in that they are fat soluble vitamins. Vitamin D helps in supporting the body's skeletal system by working alongside calcium; it also aids in boosting the immune system. At least fifteen milligrams of Vitamin E must be consumed each day; Vitamin E aids in cell regeneration and wound healing, and is often credited with bringing life and youth to skin. Finally, Vitamin K can helps in wound healing and aiding blood clotting.

Drug and alcohol abuse can start early on, earlier than some parents and society would like to admit. By drinking or using drugs a vicious cycle of more self hatred starts and before you know it, your life is completely out of control. Your actions only lead to more self hate and disappointment in yourself.

People have low self esteem for many reasons. However, low self esteem is not caused from one isolated incident but by repetitive criticism over many years. The criticism can come from anyone, a parent, a sibling, teacher or society in general. It is difficult to estimate how many people are experiencing low self esteem, but it is safe to say many people suffer from at least one of the symptoms. Maybe you are happy to see someone fail, overly aggressive, do not recognize your own good qualities, or try to please others because you do not know how to say no.

One of the most important factors in recovery is acceptance of the disease and being able to identify why you choose to be an addict in the first place. Often it is difficult to address years of low self esteem in a twelve week program. That is why follow up counseling and treatment is recommended. One new treatment that is being recommended is hypnosis. Hypnosis works with the subconscious mind to identify painful memories causing the low self esteem and help the patient work through the memory and develop new self confidence. Some people feel therapy and counseling is the best and only treatment needed to help recovering addicts. Unfortunately, if this were true all rehab facilities would offer a 100% cure rate. Most can not even offer a 70% cure rate. It is important to have a treatment plan that will help to identify why you started abusing drugs or alcohol in the first place, and this is difficult to do with a counselor. Often addicts have little trust in anyone let alone counselors and are more censored when talking until they get to know the counselor. Since hypnosis works with the subconscious mind, it allows the addict to think and speak openly about low self esteem issues.

Drug and alcohol abuse is a very serious problem, but what is more concerning is the underlying behavior of self hate. Until that issue is dealt with, the thought of alcohol and drug abuse is always there for the addict. There are many ways to help improve self esteem but why not do it in a safe environment and start dealing with the real problem today.

That first Christmas with a newborn is always particularly special for a young family. The point of Christmas decoration is to dazzle and amaze, and our efforts are usuallly especially successful, when it comes to young children. Little ones, who may not understand the dangers involved, will naturally try and grab, pull, and even taste the beautiful and colorful lights and ribbons and ornaments that don our houses throughout the holidays. A good nights sleep will lead to you feeling more energized and will even help you control your weight. You will also find that you feel less stressed. When you sleep well you'll also find your immune system will be much more effective and stay healthier.

Most of these products contain chemicals which stimulate the body making it harder to get to sleep at night.

You should try and stop drinking any kind of soda's, juices and hot beverages which contain caffeine after 8pm. Some people find that a cup of warm milk helps them sleep. You should also try not to smoke after 8pm and ideally start taking measures to help you quit smoking all together.

By taking a walk every morning you will encourage your body to be energized and you'll, feel much more prepared for the day ahead. In addition an added benefit will be your joints will be more flexible and you'll become less prone to aches and pains associated with lack of mobility.

A further added benefit of walking as a form of exercise is it is very effective at burning calories helping with keeping your body trim. Plus you'll be feeling much more alert through out the day. Initially when you start walking you should begin at a steady pace slowly adding more distance and speed to your walk as your body becomes more accustomed.

Just remember when walking that you want to work up to a steady brisk walk to make you feel like your pushing yourself but not some hard that you are out of breath. Why not take a short walk before and after meals to help you relax and ease away the tensions of the day. You'll burn calories, it will give you extra energy and relieve that stresses of the day and help you sleep at night.

If you start a walking program, it is a lot more fun if you have someone to go with you. Talk to that neighbor or a buddy from work, ask you wife and husband to walk with you sometimes. Just think about it you'll get a chance to talk about new things which will bring you closer together which will help relieve stress and get in you both exercise as well.

So you've completed a good brisk walk and the temptation is to just dash back in to your daily routine. Don't do this as this can lead to serious injury or even a heart attack. The correct procedure after any form of exercise is to complete a warm down or cool down routine. This means you let your body stabilize and your heart rate drop to a normal resting pace.

When you find you can't sleep and your mind won't relax after a busy day instead of getting up and turning on the TV. Sit in a arm chair and do some gentle stretching exercises maybe listen to some relaxing music or meditate.

Temptation is rearing its ugly head again - it sure enjoys the holiday season in tempting us to eat far too much and too many of the wrong things. Here is some advice on not going overboard.

Firrst of all, when shopping for food, you should try to avoid your local 7-11 convenience store as the range of healthy foods there is not great. Much better at your grocery store and the supermarket. A new study just out tells us that we should be aiming at NINE portions of fruit and vegetables a day instead of the old FIVE. Poorer Americans will rightly ignore this piece of advice as it would mean that they would have to spend more than 70% of their total food budget just to buy all the fruit and vegetables!

Next, you are invited out. You will be tempted to graze too long at the buffet. First tip is to drink at least a glass of water an hour before you go out. Water has zero calories and will help to make you feel full, so you will eat less. You can also eat a handful of nuts - the fibre in these are going to make you feel less hungry.

Now you are at dinner. Wine and food are flowing - it seems that a war is going to start and there will be rationing soon ! As regards alcohol, I try to have a glass of wine and then follow it with a glass of water - by doing this I can cut my alcohol consumption by 50%. When getting my wine glass replenished I try to stop my host from filling it - the less the better in this case.

If I am buffet grazing, I always try to take very small helpings and then find a seat and preferably away from that tempting table! I try to find someone who I know and I will have to tell him/her a lot of things. Takes my mind off my food. The whole process of going to get second helpings is going to make me think twice about it.

I always go very easy on stuffing and gravy - just a little sample to remind me what they taste like. Also try to fill up on cranberry sauce - cranberries are great antioxidants. I will also try to fill up on green vegetables - hoping that some health conscious person has thought about us diet obsessed humanoids! Sipping my wine and eating slowly is another great way to reduce my raging hunger pangs.

Sweets and desserts tend to be even more tempting especially if you have a sweet tooth. Just look at the amount of calories in a piece of pecan pie with full fat whipped cream - 700 ! That is half your daily amount of calories. A piece of pumpkin pie with no cream is a much better solution. Don't bother with doggy bags - they will prolong the agony !

After all the holidays are over, the average American will have put on 5 pounds but if you follow my advice above, you will not be one of them !

For years I've been someone who never really finished the thought; when I throw something away it goes...

I was surprised at some of the items I saw at the town's landfill, too. There were pieces of furniture that, being someone creative, I could see would make nice trash-to-treasures pieces. Maybe these refurbished items could be the one piece that brought the feel of a room together, that completed what the room is to feel like and express. Instead, someone tossed them out and they were taking up (a whole lot) of space in a limited area and would cause stress, not happiness.

Grab some kids, or some elders and take yourself on a field trip that may very well, do for you what it did for me; make the changes necessary for me to see what the reality of our situation is and change the way I do things.

Think about recycling and maybe the first thing to pop into your head isn't damage that's done to the earth when we use products with harmful chemicals, but that's part of the cycle, too. As well as reducing waste, recycling products and reusing what can be reused, protecting the earth from harm is all a part of the same cause.

There are so many options for safe-cleaning on the market today that you don't really have to look much further than your local grocery shelf. Pay attention to the words that describe the items you are buying. Do they contain the words, toxic, poisonous, or dangerous? If they do, then keep reading the next product's ingredients, there is a better choice out there.

How to prevent excess

Be aware of the items you purchase and how they are packaged. Some manufacturers use layers of wrapping that will just get tossed into the trash because there isn't another use for it. At my grocery store the store has manufactured mesh bags with the company's logo on it and they sell them for less than a dollar. These are excellent for reuse because they last a lot longer than the plastic bags do and if you continue to bring these bags to the store rather than the plastic or even the paper bags that is a few more less that will ever leave the store.

Here's a quote by Dale Carnegie. "Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all."

Think of having no hope. For most people this is an indication of 'the end', but for persuaders, it's an opportunity, a challenge and a call to action. I believe there is always hope.

Many years ago I had a cat who was the embodiment of persistence. I had a giant antique armoire in my living room and this piece of furniture was too low for him to crawl under, but it was the perfect height for a mouse to hide under.

There was a spell of time when this cat sat guard next to this piece of furniture all day and night watching and waiting for a mouse who had taken shelter there.

My cat had a goal that he was going to attain no matter how long he had to wait. He eventually caught it and played with it for hours while strutting around proudly show his prize to us.

The mouse sadly died, but the cat remained vigilant in that corner trying to create victory. He was hoping for another opportunity, but I like to think he was reliving his triumphant moment.

Persistence is key in persuasion. Your success rate is increased incredibly with persuasion. Follow up, follow through. Place that second or third call, don't accept no as an answer.

In order to get the energy you need for that extra push, you'll need intention, objective and desire.

A clear mindset is important. Self doubt and negativity have NEVER served you well. Sometimes we play these old tapes in our heads. This outdated conditioning needs to be banished from our lives.

A little encouragement from friends, family, coworkers and allies doesn't hurt.

With all that said, there's a point of diminishing return and if you've spent a sufficient time being persistent and it has proved futile then by all means, give up. There is no point at all in beating the proverbial dead horse. Your time is worth money and when you come to an impasse, it's time to cut your losses.

I'll leave you with a W.C. Fields quote: "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. No use being a damn fool about it."

It's hard to believe that a city as populated as New York City has always been, that it took until 1881 before the first sanitation collection agency was formed. The agency was formed in an effort to clean up the city's littered streets and to stop the general population from disposing of their waste directly into the Atlantic Ocean. In 1881, the Department of Street Cleaning was formed and the New York City Police Department was no longer responsible for the waste problems. It is basically the same department today with the exception of a 1933 name change into the Department of Sanitation.

Recycling continues today in New York City as a mandatory action for all residents, schools, institutions, agencies and all commercial businesses.

If there are cats in your house those left over bags from the grocery store come in handy when cleaning out the litter box. Just having the bags around when you have to touch something you really don't want to. By having the bags, in hand, the actual touching of the item is no longer an issue and it will help with germs being passed from cat litter box to human, which can cause all kinds of illnesses.

You should become aware of what we use and how such items can be reused. No matter where you shop or what purchases you make, if, at the end of the day you're surrounded by plastic bags, there's always a way to get more use out of them.

Outdoor play time

Without a doubt the best play time is spent outside in the fresh air and in an effort to remain responsible to the environment there are a few things to keep in mind when out and about.

If a mode of transportation is needed to arrive at the spot you're headed to, try to use the least pollutant-adding means possible. Riding a bike is better than driving a car, so depending on the distance that is needed to travel, make the best choices that will not add to the pollutants our air is facing. If it is a possibility, use mass transportation to get to where you need to go. A bus or a train is always better than driving, but if you have to drive, be sure to pack as many people into one vehicle as is possible. You may need to drive, but driving one car is a whole lot better than driving four of them.

Tips on Maintain A Compost Pile For Recycling

To begin your project you will need a compost bin. Compost bins can be built or purchased. Before putting out any money for this project, check with your town hall to see if they sponsor a program that will provide residents with the bins. If your town doesn't provide bins specifically for composting, you should check with local hardware or home improvement stores. These bins can also be found online or via gardening center websites or catalogs.

Placement of the bin should be somewhere shady, where it can drain properly and where it will be fairly easy to access without being too close to become a "smelly" problem inside your home (or the home of your neighbor)!

When you start to add to your compost you should think in layers; start with the bottom layer of coarse materials to further enable the air and drainage passage, and then layer between "brown" waste and "green" waste. "Brown" waste may consist of, autumn leaves, wood chips, saw dust, pine needles, paper towels, newspaper and coffee filters and "green" waste consists of, food wastes, fruits and vegetables, egg shells, tea bags, coffee grounds, grass clippings and weeds. Another tip is to add a layer of soil on top of each layer of waste because that will help speed up the process.

Recycling excess prevention

The idea of recycling is to reuse an item rather than toss it into the trash and have it end up filling space in a landfill, right? Here's a thought; why not have the waste in the first place? Are you with me? How can this be accomplished, you may be asking yourself, and that's good because I have a few ideas I'd like to share.

If you have to buy something that has an excess of packaging, stretch your mind a little and figure out what you can use that excess for and then put it to good use.

This new, younger generation, is an impressive one, to me. They seem to be aware of humanity on a global level. Lessons they've been taught in school on a consistent basis have always had a common theme; take care of the Earth or we may lose it. They are keenly aware of how wasteful prior generations have been and seem to be of one mind when it comes to solving those problems.

Today's teens have inspired me by their dedication to helping others who have less than they do and how wasting any commodity or resource we may have, the idea of wasting it is simply not an option. They are forever coming up with new ways to reduce production

Switching and Maintaining Your Dogs Diet

Over the course of your dog's lifetime, there may be several occasions when you need to switch your dog's diet. If is important to know the proper method to change your dog's diet to ease your pet through the transition.

Day 1 of the switch you would feed your dog 3 and 1/4 cup of the original kibble and 1/4 cup of the new dog diet. This total amount should be portioned between the number of meals during the day. Day 2 you would feed 3 cups of the original diet and 1/2 cup of the new diet. On day number 14, your dog's diet will have been completely changed over.

This gradual process may seem slow at first, but be assured, it is for the best. A dog's diet is not like a human's diet. People vary their diet on a daily basis. Sometimes we stir things up from meal to meal. Your dog's diet is best when it is consistent. Do not change brands or feeding methods frequently.

Protein and kidney failure from your dog's diet

Changing the World, One Kitchen at a Time

Jeffrey Smith recently released a book called Genetic Roulette. You'll recognize his name as the author of the best-selling book Seeds of Deception which addresses the dangers of genetically modified (GM) foods. Quite by accident, Jeffrey Smith has quickly become a world leader on the fight against unsafe GM foods, because he takes his passionate message to political leaders around the world.

Jeffrey Smith was so passionate to change the world's view of GM foods, that he ran for congress and worked at a Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) detection laboratory as Vice-President of Marketing. He travels the world with his book Seeds of Deception, speaking to political leaders. The problem with Seeds of Deception is that is reads more like a novel than a reference book.

Over the course of two years, Jeffrey Smith worked with more than 30 scientists to write his next book, Genetic Roulette. This book documents 65 health risks of genetically modified foods. Many people have never heard of GM foods. What are they?

Genetic material taken from one organism and inserted into another organism creates a third organism that is unlike the two parent organisms. Scientists take something natural and create something not natural, not found in nature. For example, DNA from jellyfish has been used to make the snout of pigs glow. DNA from bacteria has been inserted into crops to produce pesticides and resist herbicides.

The problem with eating a chip made from modified corn or a slice of bread made with modified wheat is that the modified genes pass into your system. Your digestive tract can become the breeding ground for pesticides. GM foods have the potential to save the world from hunger, but today's understanding of the subject is inadequate and downright dangerous.

Shouldn't food companies be concerned about the health of the people who buy their products? Jeffrey Smith feels that GM food companies are more concerned about profits. He spends his days spreading the word to world leaders, because it's dangerous to put a product on the market as quickly as possible. Sure, it generates revenues, but it also produces sick people.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was created to protect us from unsafe foods, so why aren't FDA leaders doing anything to stop unsafe foods from making it to market? The 1992 FDA policy claims that the agency is "Not aware of any information showing that the foods created from these methods differ in any meaningful or uniform way." That means that the FDA is taking a hands-off approach. They're not going to require any special testing because they believe GM products are the same as natural ones.

Many scientists, including those who have worked for the FDA in the past, all agree that GM foods cause allergies, toxins, new diseases, and nutritional problems. Some scientists have tried to warn superiors, but they have been ignored.

Warning Signs and Symptoms of Childhood Diabetes

Today's kids live with many diseases, and childhood diabetes is one of the most common. It's a serious condition that affects kids around the world, but great medical advances are allowing young diabetics to lead more normal, comfortable lives.

Type I Childhood Diabetes

Most diabetic children have Type I diabetes. Also known as "juvenile" or "childhood diabetes", this is a condition present at birth, in which the body does not produce insulin. Many people born with childhood diabetes are not diagnosed until their pre-or-early teens. Those born with the condition, including children, need to learn the proper treatment methods.

Know the Warning Signs

Diabetic attacks can come on suddenly, even to those who have not been diagnosed, so it's crucial for parents to recognize the warning signs. If not properly treated, these attacks can have long-lasting consequences, and may cause death in extreme cases.

Signs and symptoms of juvenile diabetes include extreme thirst, frequent urination, increased appetite or weight loss, sleepiness, labored breathing, sudden changes in vision and a sweet, fruity smell to the breath. Knowing the warning signs is the first step to saving a life.

Childhood diabetes can be easy mistaken as other illnesses. Get immediate care if you notice that your child shows one or more of these symptoms. Insist that your doctor test your son or daughter for diabetes.

Failing to diagnose juvenile diabetes can have devastating consequences. If the condition does not run in your family, you may not necessarily identify the importance of knowing every symptom. Frequent urination, excessive thirst, and blood glucose levels are the three main symptoms of childhood diabetes to watch for at all times.

If your child seems unusually thirsty, makes frequent trips to the bathroom or shows both of these signs, his or her blood sugar may be high. Children that appear to be overly sleepy or lethargic, feel "clammy" or just seem "off" can benefit from a trip to the doctor for a simple blood or urine test.

Your pediatrician or family doctor can evaluate your child for other conditions as well, but it's essential to rule out the possibility of childhood diabetes. When the condition goes undiagnosed and an attack occurs, you and your child will be forced into dealing with an emergency situation.

Health Risks Associated with Childhood Diabetes

The diagnosis of childhood diabetes brings to light a long list of potential health problems that may affect your child. Where blood sugar levels are low, your child may suffer from vision problems, kidney and liver problems and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

On the other hand, persistent high blood sugar levels can increase the possibility of infection (like an abscessed tooth or yeast infection), wounds that won't heal, gangrene from infected wounds and a host of other ailments. There may be nerve damage to the feet or other extremities. The result is intense pain and irreversible damage.

Kids shouldn't have to deal with grown-up health problems. Your doctor can perform an easy test for childhood diabetes which, if diagnosed early, is manageable. If your child has juvenile diabetes, make sure that he or she understands the condition and appreciates the importance of proper treatment. TREAT YOUR HAIR RIGHT

Aging heads are especially vulnerable to harsh treatment. With time, our scalps produce less of the oily substance, called sebum, that coats the cuticle and keeps hair shiny and manageable. The hair growth cycle also slows, making hair thinner and finer. Add to this women's changing hormone levels, which can also thin hair, and it's not surprising so few of us reach our golden years with the same lustrous locks we had at age 25.

Still, the news isn't all bad. The fact is, you may be able to preserve, and even restore, some of your hair's luster if you trade some of your chemical-heavy habits for something milder. For instance, if you've been using permanent hair color, consider experimenting with henna or other herbal dyes instead. If your hair is starting to thin, wash it with a thickening shampoo rather than resorting to a perm. Whether you're coaxing your locks back from a disastrous chemical treatment or simply want to pamper them, a gentler touch will help. Here are several ways to give your hair a break. Use a light touch. Remember when beauty experts advised brushing your hair at least 100 strokes a day? Forget it. Mechanical stresses such as back-combing, tight braids, ponytails, and even plain old brushing and combing can break and damage hair, so keep the brushing to a minimum. Litt advises using firm rubber combs and pure-bristle brushes, and staying away from unyielding metal or plastic brushes and combs.

Give up harsh chemical treatments. They're the most common source of hair damage. "Hair straighteners and perms are the two worst," says Alex Khadavi, a Los Angeles dermatologist who specializes in treating hair loss. The culprit in these products is a class of chemicals called thioglycollates, which break the bonds that lock together proteins in the hair strand. If you can't live without curls, pick products with buffered alkaline, which is slightly less harsh than pure alkaline, particularly if you have color-treated hair.

Color right. The more you color your hair, the higher the chance that you may damage it. Dyes and bleaches contain a lot of ammonia and hydrogen peroxide that penetrate the cuticle and swell the hair strand. Initially, this process can add a glossy sheen to your locks. But repeated color treatments usually leave it dry and brittle.

So what can you do? If you're using permanent dyes, swap them for natural or semipermanent ones, which contain lower amounts of chemicals. Or go with highlights rather than covering your whole head in dye; the less time your scalp is covered with it the better. The safest option -- apart from sticking with your natural hair color -- is to use vegetable-based rinses, which don't penetrate the hair shaft. Unfortunately, there's a trade-off: None of these gentler methods are as effective at covering gray.

Block all the elements. Sun exposure can dry out hair as well as lighten colored hair and give it a brassy or faded look. To protect your tresses, look for a conditioner with UV protection such as zinc oxide; work it through your hair after shampooing, and leave it in.

Wash carefully. Most shampoos contain the detergent sodium lauryl sulfate, a known irritant, but the overwhelming majority of experts believe the chemical is safe for all but the most sensitive heads of hair. In any case, most of us wash out our shampoo long before it has a chance to irritate our scalps. But if you'd prefer to hedge your bets, you can choose from many of alternatives that clean up nicely.

Don't over-shampoo. Generally, the drier your hair the less you should wash it. "Someone with oily hair can wash it every day, whereas someone with dry, color-treated hair should shampoo only two to four times a week," says dermatologist Marianne O'Donaghue of Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. For long hair, which tends to be more fragile at the ends, Bahney suggests shampooing just the scalp and letting the suds roll down the shaft of the hair.

Condition regularly. Conditioning won't undo damage. But it does tame static electricity, making hair easier to comb and less vulnerable to breakage and splitting. Bahney recommends conditioners containing panthenol, a B vitamin that smooths the cuticle, and proteins, which bind water to the hair and help moisturize.

Choose gentle styling products. Most drugstore brands of hair spray, mousses, and gels contain isopropyl alcohol, which can dry hair with long-term use. Opt instead for products with conditioning alcohols such as cetyl alcohol or cetearyl alcohol, or with gum arabic, gum tragacanth, and panthenol, which help hair strands stick together without sapping them of moisture. If you're a regular user of styling products, try to prevent them from getting on your scalp-the alcohol and preservatives they contain can irritate the skin and may cause temporary hair loss, according to Khadavi.

Blow cool air. Heat from blow-dryers damages the protein in hair strands. Set the blow-dryer on "cool" and keep the nozzle a good 12 inches from your hair. Also, try letting your hair air-dry every now and then. "The less you blow-dry the hair, and the less the intensity of the heat, is always the better," says Khadavi.

Nourish your hair from the inside out. This mostly involves the same advice you've heard a million times before: Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, fish, healthy fats, and whole grains. If you're looking to give your locks an extra boost, try taking biotin (also known as vitamin H) as well. Dermatologists say it can help by improving the quality of keratin proteins in the hair. Litt recommends 3 to 5 milligrams daily. Physician and author Andrew Weil also recommends taking the gamma-linoleic acid found in black currant oil or evening primrose oil to promote healthy skin and hair; he also suggests taking 500 mg twice a day of one or the other for six to eight weeks.

Learn to relax. Although dull or thinning hair certainly isn't the most serious side effect of stress, it is one symptom. "Stress causes levels of a natural steroid, cortisol, to rise in the body, and that can cause shedding," says Khadavi. While severe stress, such as a death in the family, is the main culprit, even everyday annoyances may affect the health of your hair. Khadavi recommends exercise and meditation to help keep cortisol levels in good check.

Is MSRA Really The Superbug We Should Be Afraid Of?

We're All Going to Die! So says the great sage Homer Simpson every few episodes. Well, the regular media matches him threat for threat with doomsday scenarios. Alas, MSRA is a bacteria you really need to take note of.

Most of us carry staph bacteria on our skin, but it isn't dangerous. MSRA, on the other hand, is. It is noted for presenting around the nostril or skin penetrations and is proving to be resistant to all the treatments we usually use for such problems.

Warnings have been issued for years that the medical profession was over prescribing antibiotics. So what? Well, the concern was the fact that bacteria mutate repeatedly, which led to the concern that one would evolve a resistant to the usual treatments.

If this occurred, the concern was that we would have no means to stop such infections. The logical conclusion to such cases would be death of the patient. In short, such a bug could wipe out huge swaths of the population of the world.

You first question is probably whether this is it, the killer bug? Although MSRA may do a lot of damage, it probably is not the killer bug. That being said, it may represent a step in that direction and should definitely be cause for concern.

Why can't we tell? The problem is the medical profession around the world. Some areas are less familiar with MSRA than others. As a result, it could be killing many, but being misdiagnosed as other things.

How big an impact is MSRA making in the USA now? A 2005 study found that it was responsible for more deaths than were caused for the same year by AIDS. Think about that for a minute. Pretty scary, eh?

The good news with the bug is it has shown an odd trend. Although the media has glommed onto an outbreak in a public school, it is found more commonly in hospitals, gyms and nursing homes. Not airports. Not public areas.

Most of us have a less serious form of staph on our skin. It carries little risk for us. If it evolves into MSRA or is replaced by it, the health risk would be beyond serious. We could literrally be wiped out in a few months.

Still, we can make the season a little less destructive to our belts and waistlines, if we spend a little time considering how we eat.

For instance, most gatherings and parties at Christmastime are about family and friends, about love and fellowship. We should remind ourselves, as we arrive at these gatherings, that we're here to enjoy our families and friends, and not just to taste every single dessert on the table.

When seeing a spread of holiday food on a buffet table for the first time, we instantly want to taste everything. But that's just not practical. Look at the food, carefully, and decide what you really want to have, then help yourself. Just don't take large portions of everything offered-you can't possible enjoy it all, equally.

If you know you'll be attending a party with good food, don't starve yourself all day, so that you can eat more. Arriving hungry is a perfect way to guarantee that you'll eat too much. Remember, the food is the party's enhancement, not its purpose.

Many people tend to congregate around the food table, at parties. Next time you're at a party with a spread, observe the people who settle themselves far away from the table. Chances are, they're the ones with the figures everyone else envies. Train yourself to enjoy party food, then move away from the spread.

Kids will tend to indulge in tasty treats until they're stuffed, if they're not monitored. Your children probably will eat too many things, during the holdiay season, that you try to limit the rest of the year. The best thing you can do is to make sure they maintain their activity levels, and that, once Christmas is past, that they get back to their normal diets.

To grasp the evolution of the senses of your kitten, just consider the vision. Cats are night predators. As a result, their vision is tailored to be much better than ours during the night, but we have superior sight during the day.

To pull this increased vision off during the night, cats have an organic element of their eyes that reflects more light to the iris. This is known as the tapetum lucidum and you have seen it. It is the colored reflection you see in photographs of cats.

On the hearing front, you probably expect your kitten to have far superior hearing to you or I. On the lower end of the sound scale, they hear about the same as us. On the upper end, however, they can hear much higher sounds than either we or a dog can.

As we all know, a cat has a sense of smell that is simply amazing. Crack open a can of food for your kitten and they will be at your feet immediately. Compared to a human, their sense of smell is 14 time sharper and they have double the smell sensory cells.

Whiskers are the key to the sense of touch for a cat. Everyone knows they have them on their face, but they also have them on the bottom of their chin, the back of their ankles and the elbows of their legs.

The odd thing about a cat's whiskers is the input they provide. A cat's brain will actually process the sense the same way as it will vision. As a result, scientists believe that cats more or less "see" with their whiskers.

Turning to taste, we find something very odd about cats. They have problems tasting sugars for genetic reasons. Scientists believe this is why most cat breeds ignore potential plant food and prefer meat that they can taste.

Does your cat have enhanced sense. Clearly it does, although probably in different ways than you anticipated. Should you be worried about these senses? Not until cats take over the world!

When you learn to use both methods in addition to other ways to deal with anxiety and panic attacks it will be very beneficial for you.

There are of course different other ways to treat panic attacks, like Yoga, but why make things more complicated when the problem can be solved on the spot just by having a dialogue in your brain, between you and yourself!

One interesting trick that did work in many cases of panic attack sufferers stands in purchasing medication for the condition. When you end up feeling the panic attack is coming you can direct your focus on the pills.

He/she can start thinking whether to take the pills, consider pro's and con's of the situation. This will make the focus shift away from the panic attack and to the problem with taking drugs or not and this focus swift alone can be very beneficial in eliminating the attack itself. Patient should always congratulate him/herself after not taking the pills.

It is not easy to think about positive phrases or even thoughts during a panic attack and coping with this situation is hard although it can be eliminated in a lot of cases with simple interior monologues. It takes practise, but it's worth it!

This might not work the first or even the second time, but having said that, you will see that positive thinking and affirmations are very useful when you are coping with panic attacks.

How To Handle Bad Breath

Latest research carried out by a well known mint company have found that the extract from the bark of the magnolia tree may well be the answer for killing off bacteria in the mouth which cause bad breath.They carried out tests which showed that when this substance was used in a mint, it killed off almost 60% of the bacteria which cause this awful smell compared with about 4% in a normal mint.

If you suffer from bad breath, you are not alone. Experts now say that this is a major social and psychological problem which affects the majority of the population, Yes, it is that bad ! But babies, cats and dogs also suffer from the same problem.

Mnay people do not know that they have bad breath or have never bothered to find out! The best way of all is to ask your doctor or dentist to tell you. However, there are other methods, such as licking your wrist and then the saliva dry for a minute or two. By smelling the dried area, you can determine if you have bad breath or not. Some people recommend scraping the back of the tongue with a plastic spoon and then smelling that.

What causes bad breath? The bacteria which will live in the oral cavity called the mouth, will create rather unpleasant gases and these will live quite happily on the teeth, gums and especially the tongue (where up to 90% of the bacteria take up residence!) Cigarette smokers are at major risk but also people who have to put up with passive smoking. Foods which are fatty and spicy are also major culprits. Garlic and onions have not exactly been known to create sweet smelling breath. A short term solution here is a sprig of parsley to chew plus a good brushing , maybe followed by a mouthwash.

Sometimes people become manic or obsessive about bad breath and may well have to have counseling. Certain medical conditions can be a contributory factor and these are :- gum disease (periodontitis), dry mouth, sinusitis, respiratory tract infections, bronchitis, diabetes and liver and kidney disease. Unfortunately mouthwashes are only a short term solution and do not address the cause of the problem.

A relatively new approach for home-care of bad breath is by oil-containing mouthwashes. In most cases bad breath is the result of poor oral hygiene resulting in the increase bacteria production which leads to bad breath. Other mouthwashes are often helpful, especially those containing zinc. Mouthwashes often contain antibacterial agents including cetylpyridinium chloride, chlorhexidine, zinc gluconate, essential oils, and chlorine dioxide. Fresh apples, citrus fruits, and celery are also good foods for helping to clean out the mouth. Plenty of water should be consumed throughout the day to avoid dehydration and dry mouth

Nux vomica and Kali phosphoricum are homeopathic remedies which can also be tried. But the best way to treat bad breath is the cause. There may be a problem with bleeding gums and in that case a dentist should be consulted. Sometimes, medication can be a contributory cause and a change may be recommended. At the end of the day most bad breath problems can be treated simply by good oral hygiene and medical care.

The Origins of Fighting with your Teenager

For 13 years you have slaved and worried. You have changed diapers, nursed them through chickenpox, cried on their first day at school, cheered for them in the school Christmas play, patched up skinned knees, and packed their lunch box for their first day at secondary school.

Those years must have been the most strenuous, right? They were 100% dependent upon you and that took a great deal of your energy. Shouldn't it be simpler now that they are teenagers? They are more independent and don't need your supervision in every situation. They can do some of the chores in the house and in the garden. They can take care of themselves if you want to go out for a late movie. You talk with them about subjects you will both enjoy, right?

So what goes wrong when they hit that 13th Birthday??? In many cultures they would now be considered adults - old enough to marry, old enough to sit in the village council to listen to the debates with the elders. Yet in the West, the teen years seem, so often, to be full of strife and conflict. Why does this occur?

Clearly stated it is due to human development and everyone's expectations.

The brain is complex. It is in a great state of growth and development during the teenage years. It is always growing, expanding, evaluating, and making links. These links build the foundation for memory, learning, perception, and social rationale.

During the first twelve years the brain learns a lot - it changes the child from a non-verbal, poorly coordinated baby to a verbal, literate, sociable and pretty competent pre- teen.

Then the teenage years hit the brain like a tornado. The brain goes into a state of shambles after which it rebuilds itself. While your brain is rebuilding itself your child might not be able to do some of the things they could before. For example, speaking to the opposite sex has suddenly become virtually impossible without becoming quite nervous. Throughout the teen years your child will need to understand the components of social interaction and how they fit into the whole social scene. They will make friends and strive to find their sexual ife partner.

Understanding the intricacies of the social scene can be difficult for their teenage brain. Their brain goes back and forth between its modes of operation during their pre-teen years and how they are expected to act as teens. This conflict can make the social behavior of a teenager inconsistent and sometimes confusing.

This tug-of-war is also affected greatly by the ups and downs of their sex hormones. Plus, teens tend to stay up late and skip much needed sleep. These factors together can make for one feisty teenager.

Teens also have to deal with the different expectations placed on them now that they are teenagers. They hear every day from many sources that they "should" be doing certain things and the definitions between normal and abnormal. Expectations for how they should act during each year of their teenage experience is detailed by their parents, friends, teachers, police, and society. It can be hard for a teenager to discern exactly how they should act when they have all these people forcing their opinions on them.

This leads into the problem with forcing expectations. If you have one, then there is the possibility that your expectation will not be met. A behavior that is considered a "no-no" is turned into a big problem.

So, with all these people having different expectations of what your teenager "should" be doing, plus the heady biological mix described above, is it any wonder that the fireworks go off?

How do you deal with a teenager that is up and down in their emotions and actions? You can try some of these tips. When you have a fight with your teenager or you are just fed up with what they are doing, take heed of the following:

1) Bickering and yelling will get you no closer to a resolution.

2) Your teenager wishes to have the optimal outcome as well. They are relying on the ability of their perceptions and skills which could vary greatly from yours.

3) Your teen might be just as confused as you are as to why you keep getting in arguments!

4) Whose problem is this? Whose agenda? What, exactly, will happen if the outcome of all of this is opposite to your desires? Does that *really* matter, in the grand scheme of things?

5) Brainstorm different ways of communicating with your teenager besides forcing them to see things your way.

6) The teen years will pass - they will grow up. When they do, what kind of relationship do you want to have with them, and what memories?

In conclusion, it is a good idea to have rules and expectations. However, relax a little. Don't be so strict that you push your teenager away. Figure out how to have fun together so you can both get through the teenage years with fun and enjoyment.

Driving can be scary if someone is aggressive and being irrational.Also make your safety the priority. When someone is in a bad attitude, don't look them right in the eyes. They will feel challenged or criticized. It is good to not try to teach someone a lesson but instead just stay peaceful inside.

The science of anger management enables someone to learn ways to stay calm in the midst of rough situations. Breathing, relaxation and visualization all are means to not be a yo-yo going up and down. There are ways to master your mind and emotions so you don't just act like a leaf in the wind.

By learning anger control tools you not only master the current situation but many other ones. If you can be calm on a long grocery store line then you also will deal better with tension at work or a problem with a credit card etc. You will practice various exercises that you can apply and they'll be noticed by your friends as you change.

Set your eye on the goal of self-control and you will be half the way there. By remembering this is your highest priority it won't make the immediate reactions as important. You won't even see those people again that are on the highway. Is it worth it to lose your cool?

Do the first letter of the alphabet, A, with your legs starting on the left, moving up in an oblique way to get to the top of your A and then moving down. Next move on to B, then, C etc., making sure that you follow the shape of the letter you are up to. This is the fastest way to actually visualize your progress: at the beginning you are going to start with the letter A and slowly make your way through the alphabet! By the time you are able to shape the letter Z with your legs, you will be very close to having six pack abs!

Having 6 pack abs is also about maintaining the right balance for your body: not only do you have to work your abs but you also need to have a more in-depth work out to keep extra pounds off!

Diabetes During Pregnancy

Expectant mothers are careful to take precautions to ensure the very best health for themselves, and their babies. The American Association of Diabetes indicates that there are two types of diabetes: Type I and Type II. Children and adolescents are most commonly afflicted with Type I diabetes, while Type II is often indicated in overweight adults. Some types of diabetes are directly related to certain genetic problems.

Another type of diabetes is of particular importance to pregnant women. Can a woman develop diabetes during pregnancy? Does a woman with diabetes need to take extra care during pregnancy? Is there a direct link between diabetes and pregnancy?

Your healthcare provider can answer all of these important questions. There are particular considerations for a woman with diabetes to take into account before becoming pregnant. When a diabetic woman carries a child, she needs to appreciate the risks associated with having the disease. The pregnancy must be treated with a great deal of discipline.

The Third Type of Diabetes?

In addition to Type I and Type II diabetes, women who wish to become pregnant should be aware of another potential cause of diabetes. Gestational diabetes is a condition developed during the late stages of pregnancy. Although this form of diabetes disappears following birth, the mother faces a higher probability of acquiring Type II diabetes later in life.

There is a direct link between pregnancy and diabetes, so expectant mothers must be very careful about this condition. When gestational diabetes occurs, the body resists the assimilation of insulation. This condition is similar to Type II diabetes, although the symptoms are a bit different.

A mother with gestational diabetes may notice an unusually high weight gain. This is caused by high levels of glucose in the blood, resulting in an increase in fetal urination. Pregnant women should be tested during the 24th to 28th weeks of gestation to ensure that they are not affected.

Only 2 percent to 3 percent of women acquire gestational diabetes, making the conditional relatively rare. Still, there are certain factors that can increase the risk:

* Age (risk increases in older women)

* Weight (overweight women are at greater risk)

* Genetic history of Type II diabetes

* Ethnic background

* Previous pregnancy with gestational diabetes

* Prior birth of a child weighing nine pounds or more

If you feel that you have one or more of these potential risk factors, speak with your doctor about the possibility of developing gestational diabetes.

Studies suggest that as many as 40 percent of women suffering gestational diabetes went on to develop Type II diabetes 5 to 10 years after pregnancy. If you are diagnosed with gestational diabetes, follow your doctor's instructions carefully to avoid contracting Type II diabetes later in life. While many Type II diabetics lead normal lives, it's best to avoid it.

Gestational diabetes is a condition that poses certain risks to expectant mothers, but it can be controlled. Speak with your obstetrician or healthcare provider to learn more about the causes, preventions and treatments to ensure the best health for you, and your baby.

Expressing Thanks At Christmas Can Start Early

Every parent knows how dangerous it can be to stand between a five-year-old and a pile of unopened presents under the Christmas tree, on Christmas morning. And once the present-opening frenzy has begun, every parent knows that attempting to interrupt a child, who's tearing wrapping paper, could lead to serious injury.

Most children will attack the good stuff, first. The toys that Santa Claus packed on his sleigh, and brought down the chimney, are the things that get the most special attention. They're the things that were most wanted and probably requested of Santa, in a letter to the North Pole, or in person at the mall.

The other gifts, the ones that get opened last, weren't requested. They aren't the ones that any child fantasized about, or waited up on Christmas Eve, in anticipation of receiving. And they probably didn't come on Santa's sleigh. They're the presents from that uncle your child never can remember, or the great-aunt you haven't seen since your child was born.

These gifts may be new pajamas or socks or school pants or sheets for the bed. This Christmas day, they'll be barely acknowledged and consigned to a pile in the corner. The child to whom these gifts now belong will barely remember getting them. But these are the gifts that parents, especially, are grateful to see.

These gifts express as much love as any of the more exciting gifts. Someone, somewhere, spent time and money to get these things, and these givers deserve to be thanked.

After the excitement of the holiday season, nothing will bring a smile to the face of an aunt or a grandmother, in the cold doldrums of January, than a thank-you note from your child. And in this age of e-mail and instant-messaging and voice-mail, there's almost nothing nicer than finding that thank-you note in the mailbox.

Your child may not know how to write, yet, but that doesn't mean he can't learn the art of the personal thank you, early. A smiling photo of him with the gift, taped or tucked into a greeting card, will receive a joyful welcome, when Grandma pulls it out of her mailbox.

Expressing thanks is a good lesson for anyone to learn at a young age. It's not just polite-children will enjoy making their relatives and friends feel good, by letting those gift-givers know how grateful they are, for the thought that went into those gifts.

Dr. Andrew Newberg's passions started in his childhood. Although his parents were encouraging, they never had the answers to his big questions like why we're here, what's right and wrong, and how to understand reality. Dr. Newberg realized he could actually test what goes on in a person's brain during periods of deep meditation.

Over time, Dr. Andrew Newberg came to the realization that our beliefs come from many sources. Beliefs aren't only religious in nature. They can be morals, political views, and even how we choose to interact with others. He believes that all of these beliefs are based on our biological roots, the influence of people around us, and the influence of our own emotional response. Our beliefs have a tremendous impact on who we are.

Born to Believe is a book that addresses actual brain studies of people in meditation and prayer. The problem with the results, as Dr. Newberg sees it, is that people with a strong religious belief can say that the scans prove their connection to their god, and those without a strong religious belief can say that religion is literally "all in your head".

No matter whether a person is religious or not, our beliefs shape our being and have a strong impact on our health. People who are more optimistic and look at the world in a more positive way have less stress, and because they have less stress, they have fewer problems with heart disease, and they have an overall improved immune system.

The best way to change yourself is through rituals. We have rituals when we get out of bed in the morning, when we work, when we worship, when we are out with friends, and in nearly every aspect of our lives. To change something in your life that is keeping you from living your passions, you have to change the ritual surrounding it. Breaking habits is hard, so changing your beliefs would surely be a daunting challenge. The more you're able to incorporate your thoughts, emotions, and senses, the more likely you'll be to make a positive change in your life.

Our beliefs are like a pair of glasses. We view things in a certain clarity or color because of the lenses we've chosen to enhance our sight. People with one pair of glasses may be more likely to see the world in a positive way and achieve their goals, while those of a different background and different pair of glasses will see the opposite and have a hard time achieving their goals.

When someone focuses positively on their beliefs or passions, they are more likely to achieve those passions. Those who focus negatively will have negative results or a lack of results. An example is the children's story about the train going up the hill. When he repeatedly says, "I think I can!" he eventually achieves his goal. Focusing on very few, strong goals at once is the best way to achieve your passions.

All I Need is a Good Diet

Eating the proper diet can help you get more antioxidants that can fight free radicals that can make your cellulite skin condition worse.

Liposuction is also not for everyone. It is a surgical procedure that works best only among young patients. Smoking - Does It Cause Panic Attacks

This is a difficult question, but in general it has been found in some studies that non-smokers are roughly 3 times less-likely to get panic attacks or panic disorder than smokers.

It has been studied quite recently that as well as impacting persons physically smoking can also have mental effect by showing adverse effects when dealing with humans who suffer from mental illness.

There are several symptoms with panic attacks, like trembling, fear of dying, heart palpitations, choking, sweating, flushes or chills, chest pain and dizziness among others.

Individuals that suffer from frequent panic attack episodes or live in constant fear of them happening again end up having a panic disorder. In this circumstance smoking actually plays a causal role even if it is not directly linked with the condition.

Generally smoking has been shown to increase the risk of an individual who suffers from panic attacks. The risk of a first time panic attack is lower for those who quit smoking although studies are not sure whether risk is lower for regular smokers who quit smoking.

People that smoke should quit now as tobacco induces panic attacks in the case of susceptible individuals. Nicotine shows an interesting effect on the human brain as it stimulates it and causes all sorts of feelings.

An individual's body might think it is suffocating because panic attacks act as false alarms and this means carbon monoxide can also trigger such episodes in people that are prone to overreacting. As you might now, this ingredient is exhaled when smoking.

Stress is also increasing when person is smoking and while having a panic attack body is actually responding quite violently to stress factors. When you think about it, you don't actually feel calmer after smoking although many people smoke to have that calming effect.

Many studies show that different breathing and relaxation techniques are very important as treatment for panic attacks and axniety disorders and smoking does increase the chest breathing for persons prone to such problems.

All this makes learning the right breathing techniques harder to control panic attacks and will add to the suffering of the panic attac patient. This means that smoking does have a direct link with panic attacks, especially when finding some of the easier ways to get rid of those anxiety attacks and not just prevent them.

Weight Loss Tips For Women

As a women, I know how hard it is to put yourself first! Weight loss for women is absolute difficult no matter if you are a career woman or a stay at home mother. If you are like me, you find yourself rushing through the day, having surprise projects and last minute details thrown at you all day long. In fact, my biggest problem is snacking off my two-year olds plate. One minute you are a vibrant healthy woman and five years later you are staring an entirely different version of yourself in the mirror. Sometimes it is difficult even to recognize that image.

Do you often look and the mirror and wonder why everything looks so out of place? As a mom myself I realize that time just flies by and the pounds just pile on. Getting in shape may be the most prominent thing on your mind but sometimes there just isn't enough hours in the day. I know from experience that it doesn't have to be that hard. Simply put, you just need to have a plan and then you have to force yourself to stick to you. Over the next few minutes, I am going to give you five ways to get yourself healthy all over again.

Eat Healthier. My first weight loss for women tip is to start eating right! Let's be realistic, none of us cook or have the time to cook exactly like Rachel Ray. But eating healthy does not mean you have to prepare two hour meals three times a day. Really, that would be ridiculous. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be healthy without an insane amount of effort. Plan these meals by shopping specifically for them. If you have the right food in your home and through the wrong ones out then you are taking the first step in the right direction.

Putting yourself first is a must. I by no means want you to neglect your family but take the time to let yourself relax. Weight loss for women can only be achieved by putting yourself first and staying health and happy. Keep in mind that in the end, your family will be the one who benefits more than anyone! Make yourself healthy things to eat, read a good book, take a long bath or just sit in silence and meditate. Whatever it is that you do to make yourself happy then make yourself do it. Ever heard the saying if mamma's not happy, nobody's happy? Well, isn't that the truth?

A Strong Desire for Self-Improvement. You have got to really want this to achieve it! Just thinking about weight loss for women is not going to get you there. You need to put yourself in a place in your life where you have had enough of the old ways and you are ready for the new way. It is easy to get sidetracked, especially with busy lives like ours. I was sick and tired of not fitting into my clothes, feeling utterly exhausted and just wasting away. So, I took action and nipped the problem at the bud because I desired it more than anything.

Exercise, oh the dreaded subject for women. I know it is not that you don't want to exercise but who feels like taking a run after your kind of day? I know not me. But unfortunately, weight loss for women requires some sort of effort in the fitness area. You know, it doesn't have to be for hours a day, really. You need to get around 30 minutes at least three times a week to jumpstart the shedding of the pounds. There is no need to have a wildly hard plan just go for a walk, pop in a workout video or be creative and make a routine for yourself.

Green Tea - Why Drink It?

Along with water the most commonly and widely consumed beverage today the world over is Green Tea. However even though this particular beverage has only become popular in recent years throughout the Western hemisphere, the Chinese and Japanese have understood the health benefits that this particular beverage can offer for many centuries.

Today if you want there is not just green tea a person can choose to consume but there are many other varieties as well including Darjeeling etc. However many prefer to consume green tea simply because the taste is far more subtle and refreshing than others. But what you should also know is that the green teas produced in Japan and China are made in very different ways which results in their flavors being different as well. In Japan the tea leaves one they have been picked will be steam dried in order for them to retain their flavor and the essential properties that makes this particular beverage so healthy. Whilst in China they prefer to dry their tea leaves once picked in an oven.

Although there are many benefits to be gained from drinking green tea it is important to note that there are some disadvantages as well. The main disadvantage to drinking large quantities of green tea is that for some people it can cause problems with their sleeping patterns and they may end up suffering from insomnia due to the amounts of caffeine contained within it. However this is the only disadvantage to be had from drinking this particular beverage and as long as person does not drink too much of it then the benefits actually outweigh any disadvantages.

Many people drink green tea simply because it contains high levels of minerals and vitamins as well as being a great anti-oxidant agent. Whilst the thiamine found in this particular type of tea is that it seems to have a calming effect on the brain and would make a much better beverage to drink than coffee. This is because although it does contain caffeine the levels in green tea are not as high as those in coffee.

It is because it contains high concentrations of vitamins and minerals as well as polyphenols (chemical which has good anti oxidant properties) it has been found to be useful in helping people to lose weight. The reason why this tea is so effective in not only helping people to lose weight but has high anti oxidant and anti cancer properties is because it is unfermented.

In order to get the most out of your green tea it is best to buy the packs of the tea leaves rather than those that come in tea bags. Simply because by placing the leaves directly into the water you are allowing the tea a chance to release all the properties that are beneficial to your health and well being. Today however the biggest challenge a person will be faced with when it comes to drinking green tea is choosing which variety they wish to consume. As you will soon discover there is not just one type of green tea a person can use instead there are many.

However when first choosing to include green tea in to your dietary requirements it is better if you choose one of the more well known varieties such as Sencha which comes from China. Not only is this tea affordable in price but it comes with a flavor that a person who has never drunk green tea before will find palatable.

Although the Sencha green tea from China has a very subtle and delicate flavor to it there are some people who prefer something a little more robust. Therefore if you want something that is a little stronger as well as being a much thicker liquid to drink you may want to consider trying Myou-Kou which comes from Japan. But both of these teas contain beneficial properties which help towards a person remaining fit and healthy. At the end of the day the green tea a person chooses to drink will be down to their own particular preference. Certainly many people who drink green tea today will try several different types before they actually find one that they truly like.

Aromatherapy - Amazing Benefits in Your Holistic Life

Aromatherapy, by definition, is the therapeutic use of the essential oils of plants. Centuries ago, and up through today, it has been used to relieve stress, calm the nerves, and nurture the soul. Currently, you will find aromatherapy in a wide range of settings, from homes to hospitals. Aromatherapy is quickly becoming prominent in the fields of alternative and holistic medicine.

Essential oils can be blended together to also provide a specific therapeutic action. Oils may be made into salves, creams, and compresses. Oils are usually diluted with a "base" or "carrier" oil, which is a vegetable oil processed from nuts, seeds, or trees that helps spread the essential oil over a larger area and protects the skin from a reaction.

Phenylpropane, the precursor of amino acids, are what essential oils are derived from. You may recognize amino acids as the building blocks of the human body. When you apply these oils to your skin, as in massage, they are transported to organs and systems of the body. Once there, they act to enhance the natural functions of these organs. While chemical drugs can remain in the body reaking havoc for days, months, and even years down the road, essential oils do not, as far as any research shows. They enter the body, where their benefits remain, and then leave, with no toxic markers left behind.

Essential oils each have their own chemical make up. It is within these that their benefits vary so widely. While some may be anti-bacterial, as in Tea Tree Oil, others may be anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-septic, or even a blend of benefits from jsut one oil!

Many have heard of tea-tree oil, it is one that is widely known and used for it's antiseptic properties. You must be wary though, as essential oils can be dangerous if mishandled. When it comes to essential oils, as in so many other things in life, knowledge is power.

There are many products claiming to be aromatherapy products, some of these are commercial products that just smell nice. Unfortunately, many companies improperly use the term aromatherapy on products that contain unnatural and perfume oils, so it's important to look at the ingredient label when seeking true aromatherapy products. Products that contain artificial ingredients do not provide true aromatherapy benefits; at best, they provide only a fraction of the benefit that natural products supply.

Look for items that state 'pure essential oil'. Labels such as 'perfume' are bad as well. When you consider that there are over 900 toxic products in about 98% of the skin care products on US shelves today, you want to be extra cautious!

Indulging yourself is not only good for the mind, but the body as well. In this fast paced world we live in it is necessary to take a much deserved break. We should not think of it as a treat, but rather a 'treatment'. Aromatherapy treatments benefit us as a 'whole', and we should use this holistic, natural form of therapy as much as possible!! So much in the world today is fake, why not do something real for yourself & your family?

Time Management Skills to Break it Down into Actions

I think everyone can use a bit of time management advice....especially during the holidays. Check out this great article for tips and tricks to use your time wisely and reduce stress:

Use this one simple idea to feel less stressed. And make better use of the time you have. You can do this by analyzing the whole project to break it down into individual actions. Realize that a project isn't necessarily some large undertaking that you're involved in at work. Anything that requires more than one action on your part is a project.

If you don't break projects down into actions each time you think about the project you have to make a decision. Every time you think about the project you have to decide what your next step should be or you decide to table it yet again and think about it later. That means every time you think about the project you're doing unnecessary mental work that increases your level of stress.

So rather than having a list of projects you want to develop a list of next actions. When you're feeling overwhelmed because you have so much to do and not enough time and you're looking at a list of projects it only makes you feel more confused and frustrated because you're too frazzled to make a good decision about what you should do next. Contrast that to when you're in the same situation and you have a list of actions in front of you. When you have a list of actions there are fewer decisions to make. You can look at your list and scan down the list and choose one action you can do now. There are two ways you can approach that choice.

You can make that choice based on the amount of time you have available right now. Throughout your day each and every day you'll have these little odd time lots anywhere from 5-15 minutes. It isn't enough time to delve into anything too complicated, but it's just enough time to clean up a few little things.

That choice may also be made based on priority. Now as you scan your list of actions you're looking for the one most important action you can take. This is the action that has the potential to produce the greatest results. As you get in the habit of making choices based on their greatest potential for value you're developing good time management skills that will help you to get more value from your time and have less stress.

When you have a list of next actions related to every project or your overall big picture goals you have the ability to be much more focused. Before you end each day scan your list and choose just 1-3 most important actions that you'll take the next day and plan when you'll do them. When the next day comes hold yourself accountable to take those actions.

It's obvious that anxiety has become a widespread problem. It might be because we are stressed from keeping up with the fast pace of living in a society, or because we are feeling more incomplete in all aspects of her allies. Whatever has caused your anxiety, you are looking for cure.

Anxiety can be caused by different stimuli, and has different effects on everybody, yet the basic truth is that all anxiety causes fear, which is created by negative thoughts. Fear can come in different shapes -- like fear of failure, or fear the unknown -- and cripples us and makes us feel things no healthy human being should have to experience.

The Benefits of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive-behavioral therapy has helped many people overcome their anxiety. The way it works is it changes how we act, feel and think about things from a negative perspective to a positive one.

How to Change Your Thoughts

Thinking something bad is going to happen to you, or worrying about things you cannot control, is what causes most people to suffer from anxiety. By training yourself to stop these negative thought patterns, you will be taking the first step to overcoming your anxiety. That means you need to isolate your negative thoughts, in order to know which ones to stop. If something is in your life that you don't have power over, you need to let go of it, and instead think positively about that which is in your control.

How to Change Your Actions

Step two in CBT is to change your actions.

You need to overcome your anxiety if it cripples you and makes you run away from certain situations and people. Once we have started to control our thinking, to make it positive, now it's time to take it up to the next level. This is a very difficult step to take, to move from thinking too acting, but the process will become easier as you start to get control of your fears.

Changing Feelings

Changing the way you feel is the final step in CBT.

By finding a way to think positively about the thoughts you can control, and to take action on those thoughts, it will be much easier for you to change your feelings about confronting unknown situations, and meeting new people, and ultimately starting to feel better.

With that said, you still need ways to take away the stress. Whether your stress is worse in the morning, at night, or at both times, you need to have a plan to destress. Actually, you may decide to want to destress several times over the course of the day. Find what works best for you, and then commit to it.

You can destress a number of different ways. A visualization technique is a great way to do so. Or you can utilize the different well-known relaxation techniques that are available. Whichever way you choose, find one that will work good for you.

Curing your anxiety is not an easy task. But there are ways out there to stop feeling anxious, and to help yourself. I've offered you information on three steps utilized in CBT. Each step takes some effort to master, but once you have, you will find your anxiety will dwindle down and no longer have control of your life.

If you cannot live without your turkey dinner, there are much better ways to obtain them. Please look into farms in your area whose birds are allowed freedom and a more 'peaceful' death....Let us give a strong message to this industry that this abuse will NOT be tolerated.

Butterball workers were documented punching and stomping on live turkeys, slamming them against walls, and worse during an undercover investigation at a Butterball slaughterhouse in Ozark, Arkansas.

One Butterball employee stomped on a bird's head until her skull exploded, another swung a turkey against a metal handrail so hard that her spine popped out, and another was seen inserting his finger into a turkey's cloaca (vagina).

One worker told an investigator: "If you jump on their stomachs right, they'll pop ... or their insides will come out of their [rectums]," and other Butterball workers frequently bragged about kicking and tormenting birds. Read more in the investigators' log notes.

The good news is that a critical mass of dairies and supermarket chains are banning Monsanto's Bovine Growth Hormone, bowing to to consumer pressure. The genetically engineered cow hormone is banned in most industrialized nations, due to its negative health impacts on cows and cancer risks to humans, but Monsanto Corporation, the manufacturer of the drug, is apparently still determined to force-feed rBGH to U.S. consumers. Under pressure from Monsanto, the notoriously pro-agribusiness Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) has recently announced new regulations outlawing the labeling of dairy products as rBGH-free. The twisted rationale for the ruling is that truthfully labeling dairy products as rBGH-free is "making it hard for consumers to make informed decisions." In other words allowing consumers freedom of choice is bad for Monsanto's profits, and the profits of Pennsylvania's factory style dairy feedlots who continue to inject their animals with the drug. PDA listed 16 companies that will be required to remove rBGH-free labels by December 31, 2007. In the meantime, Monsanto is working to pass similar anti-consumer laws in other states. The OCA plans to join our allies and stop this latest episode of biotech bullying.

HOW DID WE GET HERE:
A BRIEF HISTORY OF MONSANTO AND THE U.S. GOVERNMENT

1991: Margaret Miller was appointed Deputy Director of FDA by George Bush Sr. She oversaw the approval of the genetically engineered growth hormone rBGH. Prior to the appointment, she was one of Monsanto's top scientists developing rBGH. At the FDA, she approved the same rBGH studies she previously led at Monsanto.

1991: A right-wing extremist, Clarence Thomas, was appointed to the Supreme Court, despite nationwide opposition. Prior to his appointment, Thomas was a lawyer for Monsanto, a notorious chemical polluter and ag biotech promoter. Thomas would later cast the decisive vote in 2000 on the Supreme Court, ratifying the stolen election that put George Bush Jr. into office.

1992: Michael Taylor was appointed FDA's Deputy Commissioner for Policy, a role created to expedite the approval process of genetically engineered foods. Prior to his appointment, Taylor was an attorney for Monsanto. Taylor went on to become Monsanto's Vice-President.

1993: Rufus Yerxa was nominated as U.S. deputy to the World Trade Organization. Prior to his apointment as one of the most powerful bureaucrats in the world regarding international trade policies, Rufus was Monsanto's Chief Counsel.

1996: Michael Kantor was appointed U.S. Secretary of Commerce. At that time, Kantor was also on the Board of Directors of Monsanto.

2000: The White House appoints Carol Tucker Foreman as the sole "consumer advocate" on an international committee assessing genetically modified foods. Prior to her appointment, Foreman was a lobbyist for Monsanto.

2001: Donald Rumsfeld was sworn in as Secretary or Defense. Rumsfeld was previously the CEO of the Searle pharmaceutical corporation, acquired by Monsanto.

2001: Linda Fisher was appointed Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Her regulatory chores included "enforcing" pesticide regulations, such as Monsanto's herbicide, Roundup, commonly sprayed on GE crops. Fisher was previously Monsanto's Vice-President of Government Affairs. Previously Fisher served as a high-level staffer for another biotech cheerleader, President Bill Clinton.

2002: George Poste was appointed head the bioterrorism division of Homeland Security. Previously, Poste was a Monsanto animal specialist.

FRANCE BANS FRANKENCROPS


France has announced a ban on the planting of genetically engineered crops until the safety of the crops can be further assessed. French President Nicolas Sarkozy indicted that the decision was based on the desire to err on the side of safety. "I don't want to be in contradiction with EU laws, but I have to make a choice. In line of the precautionary principle, I wish that the commercial cultivation of genetically modified pesticide GMOs be suspended," he said.

Two new studies indicate exposure to the sun may actually be beneficial in regards to fighting cancer. Researchers from Stanford University reported their findings in the American Journal of Epidemiology last week indicating that women who had higher sun exposure had their risk of advanced breast cancer reduced by almost half. According to a second research team who studied more than four million people in 11 countries, the risk of internal cancers except for skin cancers was lower among people living in sunny countries. According to the researchers, "Vitamin D production in the skin seems to decrease the risk of several solid cancers, especially stomach, colorectal, liver and gall- bladder, pancreas, lung, female breast, prostate, bladder and kidney cancers." Although food provides some vitamin D, nearly 90 per cent comes from exposure to sunlight.

"ORGANIC" DAIRY FEEDLOT DRAWS HEAT OVER BUMPER CROP OF INSECTS

The recent class action lawsuit launched by organic consumers in 27 states against Aurora "Organic" Dairy isn't all the controversial dairy giant has to contend with. Last week, one of Aurora's 4,500-head "organic" dairy feedlots came under scrutiny by the Gill County Colorado board of commissioners. It seems that Aurora's malodorous operation has generated a literal bumper crop of cow manure along with millions of flies. "I would like this dairy to disappear," said Wendy Rogers, who owns a farm next to the dairy. "The dairy is too big to manage naturally." In a four-hour hearing, County Commissioners threatened to revoke Aurora's permit or limit the number of cattle allowed on the feedlot.. According to Aurora's CEO, Marc Peperzak, reducing the thousands of cows on the factory farm would be "impossible," costing Aurora "millions."County Commissioners cast a split vote offering the factory farm a second chance. If the fly problem is not mitigated by August 2008, Aurora will lose its organic dairy farm permit.

The 2007 Farm Bill will continue to spend billions of dollars of taxpayer money funding "farms" like this.

SENATE PREPARES TO RUBBER STAMP "BUSINESS AS USUAL" FARM BILL

The Senate Agriculture Committee approved its draft of the $300 billion 2007-2012 Farm Bill last week. The 1300-page bill, now headed to the main Senate floor, includes, as usual, billions of dollars of taxpayer subsidies for chemical and energy­intensive crops, factory farms, and junk food purveyors, while "nickle and dime-ing" organic agriculture, conservation, nutrition, and alternative energy programs. Let your Senators know you want to eliminate all taxpayer subsidies, other than those designed to make our food and farming system healthier and more sustainable, and specifically you want a "Fair Share" for organics commensurate with our current 3% market share. Besides billions in corporate subsidies, this version of the Farm Bill includes implementation of the controversial National Animal Identification System (NAIS). NAIS would require that all farmers, even those with just one cow, horse, or chicken, to implant their animals with an electronic tracking device and permanently report their movements to the USDA. This expensive Big Brother procedure, which lobbyists crafted so as to exempt factory farms, could put many small family farms out of business. Please contact your Senators to cut corporate subsidies, eliminate NAIS, and support increases in funding in the Farm Bill for for conservation, organic agriculture, healthy food and beginning farmer programs.

Your kid has a cold -- what now? - CNN.com: "Over-the-counter cough and cold medications for a child under 6 goes against the advice of the Food and Drug Administration -- and apparently that of many fellow parents on the Internet. These medications have been blamed for more than 100 deaths and at least thousands of trips to the emergency room. But what else can a parent do?"

I had to share this article with you, it gives some really good alternatives to OTC meds that are not supposed to be used for young children. And with the dreaded cold and flu season well underway in some part, we need all the advice we can get;-)
