If you follow this diet only for a few days, you will become weak and limp. This is definitely not a practical diet to go with since you won't be able to follow it for the rest of your life.

2. Grapefruit diet

Have you ever heard of or followed this diet? If you have, you will know that this diet plan restricts your food intake to a ridiculously low level, probably to that of a baby. Under this diet plan, you need to eat only grapefruit and protein-rich foods at every single meal of the day. This diet is based on the belief that when protein is combined with grapefruit, it accelerates a person's fat burning process by enhancing his metabolism, thereby helping him lose weight.

Now this might be true, but ask yourself - could you eat grapefruits all your life? I would surely get bored. Plus the weight loss you achieve through this diet would be just temporary. Obviously, this is not a diet plan for you.

3. Egg Diet

This is basically a stem of the Atkins diet. This diet is based on the concept that if you eat a protein-rich diet and avoid all carbs, your body would be forced to burn fat to produce energy since it won't find any carbohydrates. For this reason you are suggested to eat as many eggs as you can, along with cheese and meat.

In reality though, the concept doesn't work. When your body doesn't get an adequate supply of carbohydrates, it won't burn your fat deposits; instead, it would start burning your lean muscles. Gradually, you will turn into a smaller version of your former self, albeit with the same huge potbelly you had. But far from that, your metabolic rate would be reduced to a very low level as well. Do you still think it is a good idea to go with this diet?

4. Banana Diet

Yet another crazy diet, which asks you to eat only bananas for your breakfast. Of course, you could eat anything for the rest of the day. The rationale behind this is that bananas help in quicker digestion, thereby preventing the body from absorbing all calories and turning them into fat deposits. There is no scientific study or proof to backup this claim, so I am not sure if this diet works at all.

When choosing a diet plan, you need to choose one which is not only healthy but also viable; plus it should help you achieve permanent weight loss. None of the above fad diets fit this criteria, so they are definitely not for you. If you are just looking forward to losing a few pounds, then definitely go with any of the diets above, but don't be surprised if those pounds come back as soon as you quit dieting.

4 Balance Exercises That Improve Joint Stability

Proper balance exercises help to train the body to react in unstable environments by contracting the right muscles at the right time. Balance is a dynamic process and requires good posture and stability of joints during movement. For balance exercises to be effective, they must be performed in an unstable environment but one that is safely controlled. You can perform them simply by balancing on one leg or use balancing tools such as a dyna disc, BOSU ball, or a half foam roll.

To truly benefit from balance exercises you have to use proper technique. Improper training can lead to injury, so it's important to start slowly and progress gradually. Some things to watch for when performing balance exercises: Avoid flattening your feet by squeezing your buttocks. Avoid caving in your knees. Keep your hips level. Also avoid elevating your shoulders by rolling your shoulders back and down and pinching your shoulder blades together.

Whether you're an athlete or not it's important to start with simple balance exercises and gradually progress to more challenging ones. When performing balance exercises there should be no movement in your ankles, knees, or hips. The following are some sample balance exercises from.

Single Leg Balance: Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart and place your hands on your hips. Draw your belly button. Lift one leg off the ground and right beside the balanced leg and squeeze the buttocks of the balanced leg. Keep your hips level and hold for 5 to 20 seconds. Repeat with other leg. If this is difficult, support yourself by gently holding on to a chair or wall.

Single Leg Balance Reach: Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart, place hands on hips. Draw your belly button in. Lift one leg off the ground and right beside the balanced leg, squeeze your buttocks of the balanced leg and maintain this throughout the exercise. keep your hips level and reach your leg to the front and hold for 2 seconds. Return leg back to start and reach to the side and hold for 2 seconds. Return leg back to start and reach leg behind your body and hold for 2 seconds. Repeat with other leg. If reaching to the front is difficult, master that before moving to the side or back.

Single Leg Hip Rotation: Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart and place hands on hips. Draw your belly button in. Lift one leg off the ground and right beside the balanced leg. Squeeze your buttocks of the balanced leg and maintain this throughout the exercise. keep hips level and rotate at the hips to the side opposite of the balanced leg and hold for 2 seconds. Return back to start and repeat with other leg.

You can use props such as a half foam roll, BOSU ball, and a dyna disc for the above exercises to make them more challenging. But do this gradually and only when you are able to safely control yourself. Proper progression and technique will make a balance training program more effective and prevent injury.

I am partial to this method because it helps to account for the dramatic difference in weight among people. If you weigh 120 pounds, you should be drinking 60 ounces of water or 7 1/2 glasses of water a day.

Controlling your food portions is huge when it comes to shedding pounds. Knocking off as little as ten to twenty percent of your normal portion size per meal will make a telling difference. Another option is to make more of your meals consist of low calorie foods such as tomatoes, grapefruit, cabbage, apples and other similar foods.

4) Have one "Free" Day a week.

Diets are blown on a regular basis because people crack under the stress of constant constraint. So don't take this step lightly . . . it can save your diet.

Give yourself a little stress relief and eat whatever you want one day out of the week. Be it a big fat steak or a pizza, go for it! And forget the guilt stuff. This is a legal day off, so whatever you eat is okay.

As I write this analogy, I am reminded that sometimes a message is meant to be told. And, apparently this one is. After my family, being a private pilot is my greatest passion in life. There are so many great parallels with success and aviation, probably because aviation itself is drawn from man's pursuit of greatness. Understanding momentum is critical to your business success. Let's think out of the box for a minute and look at how momentum applies to aviation and how this seemingly odd little analogy might just help you in your business.

Momentum is both a physical property and a psychological one as well. We all have had times when things just couldn't feel any better, couldn't go any smoother, like we were on cloud nine and nothing we did seemed to fail. Likewise, we've all had times in our life where we felt no matter how hard we tried things just wouldn't turn our way - momentum is the common denominator in both, both as a positive and a negative.

One of my clients asked me the other day what I did to transition into success in this industry. He asked me what I meant when I said to take massive action. As I began to explain to him about the concept of massive action and building momentum, this aviation analogy came to mind. I'm just going to tell this from an aviator's perspective and let you draw the parallels yourself...

As a pilot probably the most critical part of any flight is knowing your destination - knowing where it is that you are going and when you intend to arrive. After that, of course, you must do your fair share of planning, but, rest assured, all of the planning in the world will not prevent the head winds from coming, or the abrupt change in weather that inevitably alters our course, and, plan as we might, planning alone will never take us one inch closer to our destination. For planning itself is useless without actually "taking off".

The experienced pilot knows that there will be deviations along the route. He doesn't obsess about them, but he does plan for and acknowledge them. Furthermore, the experienced pilot knows that the most important aspect of flying is to ARRIVE at your destination. Sometimes that means some pretty major deviations along the way. Sometimes it means that the destination itself must be changed during the flight. But commitment and resolve to make it to that destination are unquestioned. Can you imagine being in a small, single engine airplane with a pilot who says (after you're airborne), "we're gonna give it a try and see if we land safely, if not at least we can say we gave it a shot"? Yet how many of you have taken that exact same approach to your network marketing business and then later pondered as to "why" it has not worked out for you?

Whether you're flying a Leer Jet (as one of my clients does) or my humble little four passenger Cessna, there are two points in time when flying is at it's most critical juncture - take offs and landings. Today I want to discuss "taking off". Again, if we go back to our prime objective of reaching our destination, I think we can all agree that a successful departure is the most fundamental step. After going through the preliminary systems checks and ensuring we are safe to fly, we turn to the runway. One last glance at everything and then comes the moment of truth.

Once aligned and pointing down the runaway, we reach down and begin to apply power. How much you ask? Do we apply "just enough"? Do we think to ourselves, "What is the minimum amount of power I might need to probably get airborne?" Do we add an extra little bit for safe measure? Or do we give it EVERYTHING WE'VE GOT and apply full power, thrusting the throttle forward until our knuckles rest on the dashboard? I'll tell you what, I don't want to fly with a pilot who is trying to save gas and use "just enough" power to "maybe" get airborne! Likewise, do you really think that people will join you in your company if they see that you take the same approach to your business? Are you really giving your business every possible opportunity to take flight? Or are you perhaps loading it down with unnecessary baggage and weight and giving it a half-hearted "I think that should be enough effort" attempt?

You see my little Cessna weighs 3100 pounds fully loaded and it takes a lot of momentum to persuade it to get aloft - where it was designed to be. On the ground my little plane is awkward, uninspiring and even boring. Taxiing around the ground it is cumbersome, slow and awkward. But once you apply the necessary momentum it needs to become airborne, it transforms into an agile, docile and elegant machine - doing what it does best with the grace that can not adequately be described, it must be experienced. But without tremendous force and will, it would never get off the ground.

If you were to consider becoming a pilot, don't you think that one prerequisite would be your complete and unwaivering belief in flight? Could you possibly fly a plane if you didn't fundamentally know with every ounce of your fiber that that little Cessna could fly? Would you have the belief necessary to allow you to get the courage to apply full throttle that very first and magical time you departed the ground if you questioned the principal of light? Likewise, how strongly do you believe in yourself and your ability to make your business "fly"? This believe must be beyond question, beyond doubt - it must be known to you and just as real to you as "gravity" itself.

Once airborne, we pull back the power to "normal" ranges; we don't want to over tax the motor that we need to take us to our destination. No longer are we concerned about giving every last RPM of power - we now have other things to concern ourselves with. Principally, keeping on course so that we ensure we arrive at our destination. This may surprise you, but any pilot will tell you that they are off course 90% of the time. But no pilot will ever tell you there is a doubt in their mind of where they're going or that they will get there (if they do, I suggest you find another pilot to fly with). The destination is known. The general course is known. The approximate arrival time frame expected. But it is never that simple, and neither will your business be that simple. There are the winds to contend with, the clouds, the fog, Temporary Flight Restrictions to be navigated, the lighting strikes or the icing layer that must be avoided - flying can be a challenge, so can piloting your course as an entrepreneur!

Many of you as entrepreneurial business seekers have the "dream of flight". You have prepared. You have studied. You have dreamed of arriving in style at your destination (maybe driving a new car, buying a new house, making that $20k a month). But ask yourself, have you truly pushed that throttle all the way to the dashboard until your knuckles are white with force? Ask yourself if you really are deserving of your dream? Have you really taken the massive action required to ensure your dream becomes a reality?

I started this off by saying that some stories are meant to be told... Well here is what I mean. I've had this in my mind for a couple of days now to write this analogy to you. Then today, I sat down and began to read a book that I have read many times before. Every time I re-read it some parts come alive again as I remember them, others are if I've never read them before - perhaps I wasn't really tuned in the last time I read it. Let me quote you a paragraph from "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey:

"Those of us who watched the lunar voyage of Apollo 11 were transfixed as we saw the first men walk on the moon and return to earth. Superlatives such as 'fantastic' and 'incredible' were inadequate to describe those eventful days. But to get there, those astronauts literally had to break out of the tremendous gravity pull of the earth. More energy was spent in the first few minutes of lift-off, in the first few miles of travel, than was used over the next several days to travel half a million miles." (page 46)

When I read this paragraph, I knew I needed to pass on my little aviation analogy to you. What gravitational force is preventing you from achieving lift off in your new business venture? Are you really applying enough energy to "break free" from your current circumstances? Answer this one question: If you could not fail, what would you try to achieve? How much better would your life be if you truly pursued your dreams with the belief of a child - unaware that it "can't" be done?

One last thought. Above I said that my little plane was designed to be 'aloft' - that is where it is at it's best, graceful and true. Can you imagine how disappointed the engineers who designed it would be if the pilot never had the desire to apply full throttle? Never had the courage to give it all it deserved? You too, were designed to be successful. Each of you was born with all that is necessary in life to succeed. Only one question remains; do you have the courage to apply the momentum necessary to transform your dream into reality?

Static Stretching And Why You Should Stretch

Most of today's society is plagued with muscular imbalances due to repetitive patterns of movement which place undue stress on the body. That includes sitting or standing for long periods, and repeating the same movements overtime. Muscular imbalance are a result of poor movement of the joints, inappropriate muscles taking over the function of the primary muscles, and decreased nueromuscular control. Static stretching is a great way to correct this.

Weather you are active or not, young or old, you can benefit from static stretching. Stretching is a great way to improve the range of motion around a joint, improve neuromuscular control, and improve the function of muscles. You can perform them anywhere and without any equipment.

Flexibility and static stretching exercises can be performed during warm up and cool down. Stretching during warm up prepares your muscles prior to exercise and prevents injury. Stretching after a workout improves joint range of motion and helps your muscles recover after a workout which also prevents excessive muscle soreness.

If you lead a sedentary lifestyle or you don't exercise, it is even more important that you perform static stretching and flexibility exercises. Only stretch to a point of slight tension and hold the stretch for at least 30 seconds.

Static, Active, Dynamic, and SMR with a foam roll are a few different forms of flexibility training. The most common is static stretching. Static stretches require that you hold a stretch for a minimum of 20 to 30 seconds. It helps to improve flexibility by lengthening the muscles being stretched. Static stretches are best for correcting muscular imbalances and is the best place to start.

SMR or self myofacial release is also a great form of corrective stretching to address muscular imbalances and can be combined with static stretching. This technique uses a foam roll to place pressure on "knots" or sensitive areas of a muscle. The pressure increases blood flow to the area and straightens bundled muscle fibers, which leads to lengthening of the muscles. This can be done by rolling on a foam roll and holding on a sensitive area until the sensitivity is reduced.

Active and dynamic stretching is another form of stretching which should be formed only as a warm up or before a workout. You can cool down with some static stretching. They require holding stretches for only a short duration and several repetitions. Yoga is a form of active isolated stretching.

Improving your flexibility and performing some static stretching exercises will not only feel great but will improve your posture, reduce your risk of injury, relieve pain, counteract aging, improve muscle recovery after workouts and reduce stress.

Perfect vision occurs when light rays converge at a point directly on the retina . If light rays fail to hit that point at exactly the same point, then vision becomes blurry. So the purpose of corrective lenses is to refocus light rays so they do converge at that point on the retina.

There are a number of common eye, or vision defects. Two of the most common are myopia, or short-sightedness, and hyperopia, or long-sightedness. People with myopia can see clearly up close but not at a distance. Those with hyperopia see better at a distance than close up and sometimes experience difficulty bringing their vision into sharp, clear focus for reading and other close-up activities.

A couple of other well-known irregular eye conditions are astigmatism and presbyopia. A person with astigmatism has an irregularly-shaped cornea, which causes light images to focus on two separate points in the eye. Presbyopia is commonly known as an "ageing eye". In this condition the eye loses its ability to shift focus between far and near objects. An example of difficulty caused by this condition is shifting focus between the road and the speedometer while driving.

So these are the problems that could arise with someone's sight. However, with advancing contact lens technology, most common vision conditions can be treated with contact lenses, and in the last few years, many more options have been made available for treating each kind of problem.

Contact lenses! Would you believe, way back in 1508, Leonardo Da Vinci sketched and described several forms of contact lenses?

Although the idea of contact lenses had been developed, the technology had not. Step by step, the process was built through the years, from spectacles to today's contact lenses. Let's look at each of those steps.

1632 - A French philosopher, Ren Descartes, added to his deep reasonings, the idea of a corneal contact lens. 1704 - A French surgeon, Jean Mry, presented a paper to the French Royal Academy of Sciences, reporting that, by submerging the head of a living cat in water, the irregularities of the surface of the cornea were flattened by the water. We're not sure how he came up with this idea - and we may not want to know! However, the discovery here was that the living eye could be neutralized, or corrected, and that is an essential part of optical contact systems. 1801 - Thomas Young, with his medical education, did experiments with light and glass. His conclusion resulted in the development of Descartes idea - a -inch long, water-filled glass tube, which contained a microscopic lens at the outer end. He used this to correct his own vision. 1827 - An English astronomer, Sir John Herschel, introduced the idea of grinding a contact lens to conform exactly to the eye's surface. 1887 - A German glassblower, F.E. Muller, manifested Sir John Herschel's idea into an actual glass lens that covered the entire eye. 1888 - A. Eugen Fick, a Swiss physician, and Edouard Kalt, a French optician, simultaneously, but independently, used contact lenses to correct optical defects.

A number of years went by until the technology was developed to create the contact lenses as we know them today. But finally, in 1929, a physician, perfected a method of making molds of living eyes and using them to form lenses that fit exactly to the shape of the eye.

Then the United States got into the act - the first hard plastic contact lenses made in America and they were quite bothersome and could only be tolerated for about 4 hours at which point they had to be removed to replace the saline solution that filled the space between the eye and the lens.

As time progressed, so did the science of contact lenses. 1950 marked the beginning of the modern-day contact lens. A buffer solution was no longer needed, so the lenses could be worn all day.

Up to this point, contact lenses had been made of hard plastic. Then, in 1960, a change came - the soft, water-absorbing plastic contact lens and it was so inexpensive that he envisioned they could be worn on a disposable basis.

Nearly every year, there was a new development since 1971 and here's how fast technology was developing new creations:

Using a replaceable lithium battery, the HJ 112 digital pedometer will last up to 6 months, assuming an average 10,000 steps per day. That's a lot of walking!

I must admit I found this to be a brilliant pedometer. I did look at other models, but when I compared the price, features and ease of use, I personally thought this one came out the winner. The HJ 112 and the HJ 720ITC are both new type pedometers that you can keep in your pocket, and to be honest the only reason I picked the HJ 112 was because I didn't have any need for the software that comes with the 720 ITC.

If you're wondering whether this pedometer can be used for jogging, it can. That's exactly what I use it for. I admit I didn't buy it with the intention of going jogging, but after a few weeks of consistent walking it's amazing how much fitter you get.

I used to walk around a particular circuit, but after a short while I had the urge to do a bit of jogging, and it wasn't long before I was doing more jogging than walking. I admit that this was probably down to having the HJ 122 with me.

If you're looking for a pedometer that will last you a good few months, and you don't need any of the bells and whistles such as management software, then the Omron digital pedometer model HJ 112 is exactly the right one for you and I recommend it highly.

Don't worry if the pedometer is not for you, it's still a great idea for a gift. It's very easy to use and has all you need to keep accurate track of your activity.
